The National Jewelry Security Association (NJSA) has recently launched an extensive national consumer education campaign related to all areas of jewelry protection. Jeweler Success is partnering with the NJSA to provide FREE Association Membership and marketing materials to jewelers involved in our programs. The current economic climate dictates that jewelry owners take adequate and immediate precautions to protect the jewelry that they already own and, pay close attention to the following areas of concern.  These precautions would include;

 

• Regular inspections of their jewelry through a qualified jewelry business and creation of a record for tracking when inspections are due and maintenance is needed
• Creating an inventory of their pieces, including descriptions and photographs
• Understanding the approximate value of their pieces before making any decisions about gifting, selling, repairing, etc.
• Having written appraisals executed where necessary
• Consulting with advisors to help determine the need for insurance, financial or estate planning assistance
• Seeking reliable information before making any jewelry related decision
• Being aware of current conditions that would affect their personal jewelry situation
• Investigating who they are doing business with before buying or selling any item, i.e., current cash for gold purchaser’s

 

As independent jewelers, we have always tried to educate our own clientele in jewelry security.  The National Jewelry Security Association (NJSA) is supporting a nationwide effort to get the word out and they are providing excellent materials to “Brand” yourself as a “Jewelry Security Expert” in your area.  The current campaign is called, “The 4-I’s of Jewelry Security”.
